Happy Halloween!

Took a bit of a break from posting to recover from the trip and because it's be a rather interesting adjustment to my former life. (Which currently feels like it very well could have been a dream. A really really really really really awesome dream.)

Gotta figure out what I'm gonna do to get my machine hooked up. A wireless USB adapter would probably do it, but I've hesitated to make the purchase because I already freakin have one of those, but it's packed and in storage for when we make the final move into an apartment in New Haven. Brilliant planning, I know.

But enough bitching. Let's talk All Hallows Even. I love tonight is a 'magic' night where the spirits and supernatural forces can cross the border into regular life.

Music feels especially wonderful on this night, and I'm sad I'm not at some ridiculous concert dressed like a fool and having the time of my life. Next year we will be definitely be having a party, and when we do, I'll be bacon.

Wow

Done. 3000+ miles. At least 20 dead deer on the sides of the roads. Passed by more than 10 accidents. And probably 5-9 cars pulled over getting tickets. We sailed through it all as if we were invisible.

Really, though, we were just extremely careful and very vigilant. My whole body is wired from head to toe with the extreme energy of hours of focus. I was certain there was going to be a deer incident or ticket in the final miles of our journey, but nope, we pulled it off.

And for anyone considering buying a car in the near future I highly, highly recommend the Honda Accord. It is a rock solid car that got great mileage and gripped the road tight despite rain, snow, hail, high winds and big mountains.

Now I'm in Jersey. I'll be leaving Lu here with the cats when I head north to my parents' house in a few days. We will be reunited when we have a place to live and jobs in New Haven. I can't wait to see how all that turns out!

I should probably go to sleep, but it's going to take at least another glass of wine before that is even a remote possibility.

A Little Something to Help the Time Go By

Just saw WEEN at the Aragon Ballroom and they rucking focked. After that it was a late dinner here.

Tomorrow we carve pumpkins. Then we drive through 4 more states and 800 more miles.

Success

Just arrived in Chicago.

Left Avon, CO at 11am. Yesterday.

Arrived here at 6am today.

We covered 1107 miles.

As you can see, the cats helped.

On the Road with Kitties

They are unpredictable. Dogs love the road. Cats probably don't. But they are each unique, and that was proved within 30 minutes of our drive out of SF.

Chumby, the female feline, did not like the motion of the road. It was a hairball followed by blurp of pure catpuke just after we travelled over the Bay Bridge. We cleaned her up and continued on our cruise.

Bandha, on the other hand, was pure chillness. He checked out the car as we drove, he looked out the window, he tried to hide down below near the pedals, but we cut that shit off quick.

Each of the cats wear harnesses in the car, and those harnesses are attached to a leash that is attached to the seats in the car. This prevents them from dodging out when we stop for gas or have to pull over and clean it out when Bandha decides to take a piss in the litterbox we had set up on the floor of the back seat of the car.

Weather

In CO. Stayed with our friend Tad and his family last night in Salt Lake City, then blasted over to Avon, CO which is right near Vail to stay with Lu's sister Jaimie.

The drive has been good, but we've been dealing with more weather than I like. Snow in Tahoe, then rain, then more rain on the way to SLC. This morning it was more rain and a lot of it, followed by a crazy hailstorm with some thunder and lightning. It rained on and off through the rest of the day but as we got closer to Vail, the snow really started in. Luckily we arrived here in the early evening and only minutes later it really started dumping.

The cats are doing well overall, but Bandha (the male cat) is handling the drive so much better than Chumby. She is just pissed about this whole process, but at this very moment she is actually eating some food and drinking water, and that's a very good thing.

Pix tomorrow!

Final Vortex

Movers arrive in a minimum of 7 hours and a maximum of 9.

We are 99% there. We have probably 2 boxes worth of stuff left out and about, but now it is time to number our pile.

It is quite a pile. We are good at having stuff, and things.

I'm guessing the box count at 73. Lu's guess is 85. I bet we're both low. We told the moving company 40. Aren't they going to have a wonderful surprise!!?

Post Count Update: 107. Whoops.

Launch!

Before I crawl back into bed I had to post this video of the launch of a model X-Wing fighter.

Down With Disease

Haven't posted for a while because we've been nonstop. Final dinners with friends, Jeff Tweedy in GGP, a sidewalk sale all weekend, and then Sunday I got smacked with a bug that completely leveled me. Major sinus pain has finally abated but the illness has migrated to my chest. I now have 1-3 weeks of coughing to look forward to. So I guess I'm going to cough my way across the country, when we leave a week from today.

Wow. A week from today my time as a resident of San Francisco, CA will be officially over. It has been an amazing 4 years. Great friends, great music, wine country, delicious dinners, insane parties, festivals, road trips and all kinds of fun have kept us extremely occupied and entertained. It will be so tough to drive away from all of this, but I also know we are entering a new way of life that will be just as entertaining and fulfilling, but in a whole different manner.

More than anything I just want to be through with the transition and in a new apartment and new job in New Haven. Well, that and to kick this nasty virus. It's really beating me up good this time. And it appears I'm not alone.

Just about finished with A Scanner Darkly and I've enjoyed it thoroughly. The book does a far better job showing Arctor's breakdown than the movie even attempts. And I was interested to find online this little test that will tell you if you are more right or left-brained. The weird thing is I just finished the portion of the book where Arctor/Fred is administered a battery of tests and is told, flat out, that he's fried. And I'm tired. Back to bed for another 20 hours or so, I guess.

Last Days In Thailand Last Year

Is it superlame to self-link? It may be, but I don't care because last year right now were some of the most awesome times in our lives (so far). Check it out in written form here, and via the visual medium there.

To the right is a hog of of ridiculous proportions. Enjoy.
